What you’ll find
A beloved, decades-old wood-fired public bathhouse (sento, not a natural hot spring) in Shinmachi run by an elderly proprietor, extremely retro and worn, that appears to have permanently closed as of May 2024.

What visitors add
The water
This is a sento (public bathhouse), not a natural hot spring: three reviewers describe the elderly owner heating the water with firewood, and at least three describe strikingly blue bathwater (one identifies it as a medicated yakuyu bath, one as containing bath additives). There were two tubs — one very hot, one moderate — per two reviewers.
stated by 7 visitors · Jun 2017 – May 2024Towels, soap & lockers
Bring your own towel and toiletries: one reviewer (2024) says no shampoo or soap is provided but the elderly owner lends some on request. Two reviewers report there are no lockers (one advising not to bring valuables). Four reviewers report the showers were broken/unusable, so bathers mixed hot and cold tap water in wash bowls.
stated by 7 visitors · Oct 2017 – May 2024The water
The building and baths were in severely aged, often unhygienic condition: at least five reviewers cite dilapidation or dirtiness — one calls it beyond dirty and questions health-department approval, one found the foot mat filthy, one needed courage to enter the deep-blue tub — while fans frame the decay as Showa-retro charm.
stated by 6 visitors · Apr 2018 – May 2023Staffing
The bathhouse was run single-handedly by an elderly woman (one 2020 reviewer says she was nearly 80 and worked alone; a 2021 reviewer confirms one elderly person maintained it); many reviewers describe her as friendly and kind.
stated by 5 visitors · Nov 2020 – May 2024Day-use visits
When it operated, hours were short and closed early: one reviewer (2024) states 14:00-19:00, one (2018) confirms closing at 19:00, one (2020) guesses opening around 13:00, and one (2024) reports hot water stopped coming from the taps by 18:10.

LIKELY PERMANENTLY CLOSED: a May 2024 visitor found a closure notice and was told by a man on site that the bathhouse had shut down ('heigyo shita'). An earlier temporary-closure notice was also seen in May 2021, and one 2021 reviewer strongly advised confirming operating status before visiting.
