Ruri-no-Yu (Yubatake Source)

The water is from the Yubatake source; one reviewer gives the classification as acidic, sulfur-bearing aluminium sulfate-chloride spring. Four distinct reviewers describe the temperature as comfortable or lower than other Kusatsu communal baths (one estimating it still around 43°C); one reviewer in mid-winter found it slightly hot, and one praises the water as crisp (キリリ).

Tourist access reports mostly agree but one conflicts: three reviewers (Nov 2025 - Jun 2026) say tourists can bathe outside a locals-only window starting at 16:00 (one specifying the locals-only window as 16:00-22:00; one bathed at about 23:00), and a fourth (Dec 2025) states tourists may use the bath; against this, one reviewer (Dec 2025) says the tourist information office told them by phone it is locals-only at all hours. Recent 2026 reviewers describe bathing without mentioning restrictions, including at 7 a.m.

During the COVID period the bath was closed to non-residents for an extended time: two reviewers recall it being shut to outsiders or townspeople-only for years, and one reviewer reports that by September (2025) the COVID notice was gone and bathing was possible again per a bather they asked. One reviewer notes cleaning happens on set weekdays from around 8 a.m., during which it cannot be used.

Bathing is free: one reviewer lists it among Kusatsu's 19 free communal baths, and one English-language reviewer states it is free and very cleanly maintained by the town.

One reviewer notes a single shower station installed in the bathing room; another describes a clean, spacious changing area with a rinsing area to the side. No review mentions soap, shampoo, towels, or lockers.

The bath is unattended: one reviewer arrived around 23:00 to find it dark and empty and switched the lights on themselves; one English-language reviewer says maintenance is done by the town. No reviewer mentions any on-site staff.
