The bath

What you’ll find

A free community bath in Kusatsu fed directly by the Yubatake source; CAUTION: it has been restricted to town residents only since around 2021 (originally a COVID measure) and remains so as of mid-2026, so tourists are turned away at the door.

What visitors add

For foreign visitors
Visitors who are not Kusatsu town residents are currently barred from bathing here: 8 distinct reviewers from 2021 through June 2026 report a residents-only restriction (originally linked to COVID by one reviewer), and one reviewer as recent as June 2026 confirms it is still in force. Tourists should not plan to bathe here.

The water
Reported water temperature varies by visit: one reviewer measured 42C, another 43C, but a third found 47C at the coolest corner and was told by locals to narrow the source faucet to bring it to about 43C; a hose/faucet for temperature adjustment is mentioned by two reviewers.
