Sawatari Onsen Public Bath

Adult admission is ¥300 (at least twelve distinct reviewers, Dec 2025 - Jun 2026). Two reviewers add that on the 26th of each month ('good bath day') it drops to ¥200, and one notes overnight guests at local inns receive a free bathing ticket.

Calcium/sodium sulfate-chloride spring: one reviewer cites the analysis (source 55.1°C, 161 L/min pumped, pH 8.5, 1,092 mg dissolved solids); another gives the type with a 55°C source and calls it a 'beautifying skin bath'. The water is colorless/clear with a faint sulfur smell (four distinct reviewers; one found the sulfur smell strong) and abundant white yunohana flakes (at least six distinct reviewers). Three reviewers repeat its reputation as the 'finishing bath after Kusatsu' — milder than Kusatsu's acidic water per one — and three describe smooth, skin-beautifying effects.

There are no washing stations, no showers, and no shampoo/soap provided — bring your own (at least seven distinct reviewers state this; only cold-water taps exist, and you scoop bath water with a basin to wash). A free dryer is available (three distinct reviewers). Clothing goes on open shelves without locks; a small free valuables locker exists (four distinct reviewers). Two reviewers warn there is no toilet inside — use the adjacent washlet-equipped toilet before entering; one notes the changing room has air conditioning.

Genuine kakenagashi: five distinct reviewers call it source kakenagashi (one describing water pouring over the rim in torrents), and one states there is no added water or reheating by default. Bathers may cool it themselves: a hose/tap between the tubs lets you add cold water (four distinct reviewers describe doing so), but etiquette applies — ask or be alone first (two reviewers relay locals' guidance), and one reviewer was told not to add water to the small tub because locals use it as a finishing bath.

Unusually for an onsen-town communal bath, it has an attended bandai/reception (one reviewer remarks on this rarity). At least five distinct reviewers mention the attendant — described variously as a kind elderly woman, a friendly receptionist, and an 89-year-old man at the bandai; payment is made at a window beside the bath entrance (one reviewer).

Indoor only: one reviewer states explicitly there is no outdoor bath, and another confirms the facility is two indoor tubs only. Each tub holds roughly 2-3 people (three reviewers give capacity estimates). No reviewer mentions a sauna.
